Dear gardening lovers, today is a special day in our garden. We have an interesting mission ahead of us - planting dahlias in tubers on four plots in Dubrava within the Garden Center Agroflora by Gardens. Our goal is to apply four methods of sustainable production and planting of dahlias in tubers on two plots, each measuring 15x15 meters (about 225 m2). Our multidisciplinary team, including experts from Qtech and Agroflora, is committed to this project, while I oversee the technical aspects of the operation.
1๏ธโฃ Preparation phase: ๐
The terrain was carefully cut in order to be optimally prepared for planting. Our planting methods are selected in accordance with soil analysis and weather conditions, with the aim of achieving the highest efficiency per square meter and number of dahlias.
In this part of the process, careful planning and precision are key. Given the surface area of โโour plots of 225 m2, we approached soil preparation with a detailed strategic approach.
Soil analysis: ๐ฌ
The first step in preparation is soil analysis. We sent soil samples for laboratory testing to obtain detailed information on soil composition - pH value, concentration of nutrients and organic matter, as well as soil texture. This information is necessary to choose the best method of planting and maintaining dahlias.
Soil preparation: ๐
After we received the results of the soil analysis, the soil was carefully cut. This is a key step in soil preparation because it improves soil structure, enables better circulation of air, water and nutrients, and provides optimal conditions for the growth of dahlia roots.
Planting planning: ๐
Considering the results of the soil analysis, we planned a planting strategy. Considering the size of the plot, our team of experts assessed the optimal planting density in order to achieve maximum productivity, but also to maintain healthy and sustainable production. This includes consideration of plant spacing, tuber planting depth, and planting schedule.
Team organization: ๐ฅ
Our multidisciplinary team consists of experts from different fields - from technical engineers, agro experts to field workers. In this phase, the task of each team member is clearly defined in order to make the preparation process as efficient as possible.
This preparation phase is crucial for the success of the entire project. The next phase, planting, begins as soon as this basic work is completed. ๐๐ฑ
2๏ธโฃ Planting phase: ๐ฑ
After we chose the planting method, dahlia tubers were planted in the ground. The use of advanced planting techniques ensures an optimal start of plant growth, thereby reducing plant loss and ensuring a high degree of success.
The planting phase is the central stage of this process, and properly carried out planting is the key to successful dahlia cultivation. Given the specifics of dahlias, this stage requires precision and attention to detail.
Selection of tubers: ๐๐ฅ
The first step in the planting phase is the selection of tubers. Dahlia tubers used for planting must be healthy, without signs of disease or damage, and have at least one "eye" from which a new plant will grow.
Planting schedule: ๐๐ผ
The tubers are planted according to a predetermined plan, with regard to the optimal planting density. This means that care must be taken to ensure that each plant has enough space for growth and development. When planting tubers, the depth is important - dahlia tubers are usually planted at a depth of 15-20 cm.
Mechanization: ๐๐ช
For planting tubers, we used specialized machinery that enables fast and precise planting. The machines we use are adapted to the specifics of our plot, and their use significantly speeds up the planting process and increases efficiency.
Teamwork: ๐ซ๐ฑ
Our team of experts from Qtech and Agroflora actively participates in the planting process, monitors the operation of the machines, places the tubers correctly and checks the quality of the planting. Each team member has a clearly defined role in this process to ensure everything runs smoothly.
After the planting is completed, we move on to the next, equally important phase - irrigation and maintenance. ๐ฆ๐ฟ
3๏ธโฃ Maintenance phase: ๐ง
Each plot is equipped with a sophisticated drip irrigation system that maintains optimal soil moisture. In addition, we can apply a sprinkler system if necessary. Water is supplied from three different sources - rainwater, wells with water rich in iron and the city's water supply. The combination of these sources allows us to adjust the composition of the water to the needs of the plants.
The maintenance phase begins as soon as the tubers are planted and continues until the dahlias reach their full size. This stage requires regular and constant attention to ensure healthy and lush growth of dahlias.
Irrigation: ๐ฟ๐ง
Proper watering is key to growing dahlias. The tubers are watered immediately after planting to encourage the germination process. Next, watering should be regular and moderate, taking care to avoid excessive retention of water that can lead to rotting of the tubers. We use a drop-by-drop system for precise and efficient irrigation, and a sprinkling system is also available as an option.
Growth monitoring: ๐ฑ๐
Monitoring the growth of dahlias is carried out regularly to monitor their well-being and identify potential problems at the earliest stage. All team members have responsibility for overseeing the growth of dahlias in their care.
Fertilization and protection: ๐งด๐ผ
Dahlias are regularly fed with appropriate fertilizers to ensure optimal growth. Also, preventive protection measures are applied to avoid diseases and pests that could endanger dahlias.
Efficiency per mยฒ and number of dahlias: ๐๐ธ
Through each phase of the process, from planting to maintenance, efficiency per mยฒ and number of dahlias is constantly monitored. This makes it possible to evaluate the success of the planting method and to see where further improvements can be made.
